Randale Watson Awarded 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors for Men's Track & Field

2012 Aug 8

Randale Watson of Kingston, Jamaica, was among the members of Johnson C. Smith University's men's track & field team to earn All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). JCSU represents the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) as the only institution from the conference to receive this honor.

The Golden Bulls' men's team had the fourth highest team grade point average (3.27) amongst the 41 DII teams recognized. This is the third consecutive season JCSU has earned All-Academic Team honors. In 2011, Johnson C. Smith University was the Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year.

Four members of the men's team collected All-Academic student-athlete honors, including 2012 Indoor/Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year, Akino Ming. Ming also holds the title of 2012 NCAA DII Outdoor 400m champion.

Ashland University and Western State College of Colorado were named the Division II Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year, respectively. Each team earned the distinction as a result of being the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.00-cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship.

Bentley reported the highest cumulative team GPA of 3.42 among all Division II men's programs. Truman State (3.36) and Findlay (3.31) fall into the nation's top three in the category.
